Interested in taking the Leave No Trace pledge?

Most RVers rate being with nature as one of the top perks of the RV lifestyle. But, did you know there’s an organization that helps outdoor enthusiasts care for our planet?

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics teaches everyone – from children to seniors – how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. The organization says that it’s the most widely acceptably outdoor ethics program used on public lands. Essentially, the organization shows members how to make sound decisions regarding nature, which dovetails with broader ideas for green living.

What’s the Leave No Trace pledge?

The Leave No Trace pledge covers the following seven principles:

1)   Plan Ahead and Prepare

2)   Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces

3)   Dispose of Waste Properly

4)   Leave What You Find

5)   Minimize Campfire Impacts

6)   Respect Wildlife

7)   Be Considerate of Other Visitors

While some of these principles may seem like common sense, unfortunately they’re often ignored. By being a RVer who is a good steward for our natural resources, you can subtly remind others how to take care of the outdoors.

The site contains plenty of ideas for green living. Overall, you can help the earth by implementing low-impact camping activities, avoiding crushing delicate vegetation when exploring the outdoors, helping prevent erosion by taking new paths when hiking, not littering, favoring the use of lightweight camp stoves instead of fires and leaving behind what you find on your hikes.
